In SMAD 203: User Experience Design, our team tackled the challenge of designing a web app that would solve a real user need on JMU’s campus.
We developed a focused design question, crafted thoughtful research questions, and conducted both user interviews and Google Forms surveys to gather insights from students. I helped lead the analysis process, identifying user patterns, needs, and “a-ha” moments that directly informed our final design requirements.
Our deliverables included:
- A professionally formatted UX report
- Primary and secondary personas with visuals and slogans
- Empathy maps and a journey map to visualize the user experience
- A data-driven design rationale that outlined our process, findings, and next steps
We earned a 97.5% on the project, with comments highlighting our clear rationale, research quality, and portfolio-ready presentation.
This project strengthened my skills in user-centered design, data synthesis, persona creation, and storytelling through UX artifacts—all critical for developing digital products that actually meet users where they are.
